NC Demos November Blog Hop

Hello everyone!  And welcome to our NC Demos Monthly Blog Hop.  This month’s theme was to share our favorite crafty gifts, gift wrap, decor items, tags or a REALLY fancy card!  I am finding it really hard to realize that we will be celebrating Thanksgiving in just 4 days and Christmas in a  month!  I say it every year but once we hit Labor Day, the rest of the year just seems to be on fast forward!

My projects this month are two Home Decor items.  I love the Ride With Me Bundle but I haven’t used it much.  But I had been thinking of ways to use that cute little truck and I came up with this idea.  I created this garland using several truck images and lots of our Holiday catalog ribbon selections.  The only problem was that it was hard to really get a good photograph of the full length of the garland.

Ride With Me Christmas Garland

I started out stamping 6 trucks on Whisper White cards stock, coloring them with blends and then fussy cut them.  Then I stamped the trees, colored them and used the coordinating die to cut them. I also stamped the wheels and used the matching die and attached them with dimensionals to make them stand out a little more.  Then I stamped 6 more trucks and cut them, but I didn’t color them.  I wanted them for additional backing to make the trucks a little more sturdy on the garland.

Once everything was stamped, colored and cut, I added the trees to the truck.  Then I started making the garland.  I started going from right to left.  The base of the garland is the Real Red Curly Ribbon.  I didn’t really measure out any particular length, I just worked with the ribbon still on the roll since I didn’t know how long I wanted it to be.  I tied a loop about 3- 4″ in,  leaving a little bit of a tail hanging.  Then I just started tying the pieces of the Shaded Spruce and Real Red Cotton Ribbon, spacing them out a bit.   I used 3 pieces of ribbon, alternating the colors.  You could do all one color if you wanted to, I just liked the contrast.  Then I added a truck.  To attach the truck, I simply ran a bit of double-sided tape on the back of the truck and laid it over the ribbon.  Then I flipped the truck over and attached the 2nd non-colored truck layer to the back of the colored truck, which added stability and helped keep the ribbon in place.  And by placing the Red Curly Ribbon near the top section of the truck image (over the “cab” portion), it helped keep the truck in place without flipping backward.  Then I added 3 more pieces of ribbon, spaced them out and added another truck after that. I continued this pattern until I got to the length I wanted.  I ended the garland by tying a loop at the end and left 3-4″ of ribbon hanging after the loop, then I cut it off the roll.  I actually only used 5 of the 6 trucks that I had colored.  There’s a LOT of Wink of Stella on the trucks, it’s just always a little challenge to have it show up well in photos.

Since I had an extra truck left over, I decided to make a little tea light holder.  I combined the truck image with the trees from Merry Moose.  The tea holder panel is 9″ x 2 1/8″, scored at 1″, 4 1/2″ and 8″ on the 9″ side.  Using the tree stamps from Merry Moose and Shaded Spruce Ink, randomly stamp trees just above the 1″ score line and below the 4 1/2″ score.  Stamp off on some of the trees so you have a variation of colors.  I used the  2nd from the smallest solid circle die from the Layering Circles set for the front of the holder (make sure to position the punch high enough that you can place the truck on the front without covering the entire opening). I cut a 2″ x 2 1/4″ piece of clear acetate to place behind the circle.  I actually wanted to use a piece of vellum but I couldn’t find where I’ve stored my vellum stock in my craft room…sad but true :(.  The Christmas Cheer sentiment from Itty Bitty Christmas was stamped in Black Memento Ink.  Then I folded and burnished the score lines.

Using double-sided tape, attach the bottom pieces together to make the base, being sure to leave enough room to place the tea light inside the folded tent.  And lastly, attach the truck image using double-sided tape.  This would be a perfect little decoration for a side table, or on a mantle.  Or even as Holiday Dinner place setting.

Just a reminder, you can click on any of the project pictures and you will be directed to the shopping list of the products I used to make it.  You can add all the items to a shopping cart or only the items you don’t already have!
