NC Demos February Blog Hop – Bug Out!

Wow, how is it possible that we are nearing the end of February already?  Our weather has been pretty mild so far this winter, and we are officially only a few weeks away from Spring!  And we all know that Spring brings flowers, birds, bees, butterflies and many other little critters.  To prove that point, here’s a pic that was taken in my side yard a week or so ago, lol!   Mr.Bee is doing his thing!

You may have just come here from Tina Lesson’s blog.  She always has such great projects that she shares with us 🙂

For my project, I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do this month.  I only have a few sets that worked with our theme.  But the set I decided on is one I’ve have been loving since I ordered it.  And to be honest, it’s a set that I passed several times as I went through our Annual catalog!  One of the other reasons I wanted to use this set is that we just released a coordinating die set to go with it.  Click HERE to see the Coordination Product Release flyer.

Now, let’s talk about how I made this card.  The rectangle die that comes in the set actually only cuts a solid rectangle with the design around the border (see pic #2).  But I wanted a frame,  so I went to my Rectangle Stitched Die set and selected the 4th rectangle starting from the smallest size out (I believe the dimensions are 3 5/8″ x 2 3/8″).  I cut the solid rectangle first, then ran it through again with the Stitched Rectangle die in the center (see pic #3).  The end result is my frame!

The card base is an 11 x 4 1/4″  piece of Shimmer White cardstock, scored at 5 1/2″.  I laid the frame on the front of the card just to get placement for where I wanted to stamp the sentiment, but I did not attach the frame just yet.  I stamped the sentiment using Soft Suede ink.  Next, I removed the frame and took Cherry Cobbler and Soft Suede markers and flicked ink randomly around the card front.  Then I attached the frame to the front using Liquid Multi-purpose glue.  I like how it gives you a little wiggle room time to get your object just where you want it before the glue sets.

The flowers were stamped in both Cherry Cobbler and Petal pink and cut using the coordinating flower die.  Then I used Wink of Stella on them, which added a little more color to the stamped image since WOS is waterbased and it gives a slight watercolor effect when you color it over our classic inks.  The large leaf sprig was stamped with Pear Pizzazz and the butterfly in Soft Suede, both cut out with the appropriate dies.  I also used WOS on the butterfly.  Using some scrap gold foil paper, I cut one small butterfly and 2 small leaf sprig pieces.  Then it was just a matter of placing those pieces over the frame.

Everything except the gold leaf sprigs has dimensionals behind them.  The small gold butterfly was added to the top of the frame with Liquid Multi-purpose flue and the card was finished off using Champagne Rhinestones.

For the inside, I had 2 spare butterflies in Petal Pink so I stamped another large leaf spring in the lower right-hand corner and added a butterfly over that and placed the other over the sentiment, which is also part of the stamp set.  And in case you are wondering why the sentiment is stamped on a stitched rectangle piece, I had an oopsy moment.  I didn’t take the time to use my Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment inside and it was crooked 😦  That will teach me to use the tools I have the first time, lol!!

I really love the color combo on the card.  I got my inspiration from my downline, Nancy Hoffman.  She had been sharing some designs she was working on for her upcoming class and Cherry Cobbler, Petal Pink and Pear Pizzazz were one the combos she used.  I just added Soft Suede to my project.

I hope you enjoyed my project this month.  Now hop on over to Laurie Meier’s blog to see what she created for us this month!

Retiring 2018-2020 In Colors!

Believe it or not, we only have a little over 3 months left that we can purchase the bold, bright selections of the 2018-2020 In-Color lineup!  That’s right, these beauties will retire at the end of May.  I wanted to give you an early heads up about this.  Once everyone starts to realize that these colors are going away, they start buying up ink refills, cardstock, and embellishments long before the Annual Catalog retires.   So, now is the time to grab them!

five ink pads

I joined a Blog Hop last June where we had to use these colors so I thought I’d share with you the card I made for it.

Click on the ink pads below to see all the rest of the coordinating products that go with each color!

Looking Up All Inclusive Card Kit

Yesterday I attended a class by fellow demonstrator, Patricia Todd.  She featured the all-inclusive card kit, Looking Up.  If you aren’t aware, SU! offers several all-inclusive kits.  They have every single thing that you would need to create multiple cards, as you can see from the picture below.  They even include a storage box for your finished cards.  One of the things I love about kits is that you can follow the instructions exactly as they are, or use your own creativity to come up with different designs.  They are great for the beginner through advanced crafters.  And they are a great value as well.   With this kit, you would make 15 cards for just $27!  That’s less than $2 per card.  And after you use the materials in the kit, you would still have the stamps, ink and acrylic block so that you could continue to make additional cards with materials you may have at home.   And if this kit just isn’t your style, we have other all-inclusive kits available as well. You can see those kits here

AND, I am considering offering this kit for my April class! It would be a pre-paid RSVP so that the kits could be purchased and ready for the attendees. Would this be something that interests you?  Drop a response on this post and I’ll randomly draw a lucky winner to receive one of the cards I created yesterday 😊

Here are just a few of my finished cards from the class.  Trish had some extra cardstock that matched the colors used in the kit, along with some extra stamps and dies for us to use so that we could “go off the page” so to speak, for our own creations 🙂

Did you know that you can have a kit party?  You could plan a fun crafting night (or day!) with your friends using these kits.  Just decide on which one you’d want to make, or have your friends pick their favorite.  Then we can schedule a time to get together to assemble the kits.  I would bring along some extra stamps, dies, cardstock and inks for you and your friends to use.   Contact me for more information!

Thanks for stopping by!

2020 Mini Catalog, Bundles, Cards, Stampin' UP!

Someone Special Card

When I polled my January class attendees about ideas for February’s class, quite a few weren’t interested in traditional Valentine’s cards.  And I understand that.  Not everyone celebrates the holiday.  And to be perfectly honest, my husband and I don’t really do anything special ourselves.  We’re not unromantic by any means, but the holiday has become so commercialized (as are MOST holiday it seems) that we just decided a few years ago to not make a big deal of it.  I get flowers randomly throughout the year, which I enjoy much more than a specific day of the year.  And we tend to eat out a lot, so going for a “special” meal isn’t that enticing either.  So, I wanted to design something that could be used for Valentine’s Day, if necessary,  but could also be used just to celebrate friendship as well.  And when I saw our new Someone Special stamp set in the Mini catalog, I knew it would be perfect!  And we’ve just introduced coordinating dies to go with this set!  See my previous post concerning the new coordination products 🙂  This card also uses products from the From My Heart Suite, which has a very traditional Valentine’s feel to it.

Here are the instructions for creating this card for yourself, and all the products used are listed below the instructions.  I hope you enjoy this little guy with his bouquet of balloons!

Materials and measurements:

Real Red Cardstock
4 1/4″ x 11″, score at 5 1/2″

Whisper White – 4″ x 5 1/4″
Scrap for Nested Die – 3″ x 5 1/4″
Scrap for Racoon – 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

DSP
1 1/2″ x 5 1/2″

Real Red Ribbon
2 pieces – 7 1/2″ and 4″

Card Front:

Fold Real Red in half and burnish score

Wrap 7′ piece of ribbon longways around the strip of DSP. Fasten ends to the backside of DSP with snail adhesive.

Attach ribbon-wrapped DSP to the front of the Real Red card front, leaving about 1/8″ of red card stock showing on the left-hand side. Press firmly to make sure it lies flat.

Take 4″ piece of ribbon and slip it under the 7″ length and tie it in a knot. Just tie it once so that it doesn’t add too much bulk to the card front.

Racoon:

On the 1 1/2″ by 2 1/2″ of white scrap, stamp the Racoon Detail stamp using the Black Memento ink.

Ink the solid Racoon image with Smoky Slate ink and stamp it over the black detail image. You should be able to line this up perfectly since the stamps are photopolymer, which are clear. I started lining up with the top of his ears and adjusted where needed before firmly pressing the solid image to paper.

Using the Racoon die, cut the image out using a die cutting machine. Set the image aside.

White Die Cut:

Take the 5 1/4 x 3 piece of white cardstock and the Nested Die that measures 4 7/8 x 2 5/8, cut out,

Using the sentiment “For A Very Special Someone” and Memento Ink, stamp the sentiment as far down on the die-cut as you can.

Take the solid heart stamp from the Special Someone stamp set and stamp 3 hearts using Real Red ink. Position them so that they are near the top, righthand side of the die-cut card stock. I laid my Racoon image on the die-cut just to get an idea of the positioning for the balloons.

Using the Real Red marker, brush end, flick the brush against the marker cap to allow the ink to lightly splatter on the white area of the die-cut. You only want a little subtle color added, so don’t overdo it.

Apply dimensionals to the back of the Racoon and attach him to the left and above the sentiment. I used a black marker to hand draw the balloon strings.

Inside Card:

On the bottom right of the 4″ x 5 1/4″ white cardstock, tamp just a bit of the top portion of the Racoon using the detail stamp and Memento ink. Use the solid image and Smoky Slate ink to fill in the detailed image.

Add the sentiment of your choice. Attach the cardstock to the inside of the card.
