Welcome to our monthly NC Demos blog hop!  Thank you for joining us.  You may have just come from  Tracie Evans Langley’s blog, and I know she had something fun to share with you.

I’d like to start off by saying Welcome Spring! It’s finally here and so far it’s been pretty pleasant!  Spring can be so iffy weather wise, it can be cold and wet or warm and sunny, sometimes on the same day, lol!  When Spring arrives it brings with it several holidays and events.   There’s Mother’s Day, Father’s Day,  Memorial Day,  graduations, weddings, etc.   We were to pick a Spring event for our theme this month and I decided to pick Father’s Day.  And I also chose to pick one of my all-time favorite stamp sets, Lovely As A Tree.  I am so very sad that this set will officially retire at the end of May.  It has been a go-to set for me for many, many occasions.  If you don’t have this in your collection, I urge you to get it.  It’s such a versatile stamp set.

I also wanted to use another retiring favorite, the Wood Texture Designer Series Paper.  It’s another great item that can be used so many ways.  The prints are so authentic and you get 48 6×6 pieces!  So it goes a long way too!  I’m definitely going to stock up on more of this for my private stash before it’s gone.  And if you love it as much as I do, I’d suggest you do the same!
Wood Texture DSP

I started out by punching several pieces of the DSP, using as many different patterns as I could.  I laid them out on a piece of 4′ x 5.25′ Very Vanilla cardstock until I had a pattern I was happy with.  Then I attached them with double-sided adhesive.

I then turned that over and trimmed off all the pieces that were hanging over the Very Vanilla layer.  Then that layer was placed on the card base using dimensionals.

Next, I stamped the Oak Tree image on to one of the patterns from the DSP pack and used the Layering Circle Framelits to cut that image and also a larger sized circle of Soft Suede.  Using scraps, I cut a strip of Soft Suede and stamped World’s Best Father from the Itty Bitty Greetings set.  To give it more of a rugged appearance, I used my fingernail to rough up both edges of the strip.  That was then taped to the card base and I added 2 Pearl Basic Jewels colored with the dark Soft Suede Blends on either side of the sentiment.  The Oak Tree circle layered on to the Soft Suede circle and it was applied to the card base using dimensionals.

This is a great layout for using up any extra DSP you have lying around.  The most time-consuming part was deciding which patterns to use!  I am going to make several of them using various packs of DSP and just save them for future card projects.

I hope you enjoyed this simple card!  Please continue on through the blog hop and visit our next talented demonstrator,  Anita Trippi. She always has amazing projects!

And remember that we are nearing the end of our current Annual Catalog.  The items that are retiring are only available while supplies last, so take a look at the Last Chance Product section on my website and order your favorites before they are gone for good!

    • Thanks, Tracie! I was really nervous for this first posting. Still learning the new format but that’s ok, I’ll get the hang at some point 😊. And thanks for your comments on the card, I really enjoyed making it and want to definitely do more using that format.

  2. Toni – Thank you so much for sharing such a great design. I am definitely going to CASE your card, if you don’t mind! The Wood Textures DSP is one of my all-time favorites. And, I am very embarrassed to tell you that I don’t have the Lovely as a Tree stamp set. Guess I need to put it on my have-to-have list!

    • Please do CASE, I’d be honored 😊. I’ve had my original wood mounted set since it first came out in 2001! I just bought the cling version this year. I honestly love the set.
