February NC Demos Blog Hop – Shake, Rattle and Roll!!

Welcome to our February Blog Hop!  You may have just hopped over from Amy Kinler’s blog, wasn’t that a great project!?  She always does amazing work, as do all of our hop participants!

Our theme for this month was to make a project with movement, which at first overwhelmed me because I couldn’t decide what type of card I wanted to make.  There are shaker cards, slider cards, pop-out cards, fancy flip cards, so many options that my head started to spin.  And then I thought, wait a minute, I just saw a great project showing a spinner card so why not tackle one of those?  The spinner card was demonstrated by another talented NC Demo, Carolyn Bosely, during our monthly NC Demo Stamp Along and I just fell in love with it.  I already knew which stamp sets I wanted to use, the Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick Bundle.  The Hey Birthday Chick stamp set is currently available in our Jan-Jun Mini catalog.  Hey Chick is actually a Sale-a-Bration stamp set that retired back in 2017, but, SU! decided to bring it back and I’m glad they did.  It coordinates perfectly with Hey Birthday Chick!  And on top of that, they created dies to go with BOTH of these stamp sets…Woo Hoo!!  You can find all the ordering info by clicking on the picture below 😉

And here’s a flyer that you can download with all the order numbers for the stamps and dies – Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick Bundles

I’m using some pieces of both stamp sets and dies for my project.

I’m actually going to show you 2 cards.  The first one was my prototype.  When I design a card from scratch, I generally have an idea in mind of what I want it to look like.  And to be honest, most of the time the first draft is less than stellar, lol!  So I changed up a couple of things and was much happier with the 2nd card.

1st Card Attempt
Final Version

In order to create movement for this card, you need a little pocket change.  Yes, you read that right, the moving mechanism of this card is actually 2 pennies adhered together with a mini dimensional!  Who would have thought that, lol!  In order to allow room for the spinner to work, there needs to be 3/8″ between the outer circle and inner circle.  So I had to choose 2 dies from the Layering Circle dies that gave me that spacing.  You also have to mount the center circle and the main card layer with dimensionals to give room for the spinning to occur.  It might sound a little complicated but trust me, it was actually pretty easy…and FUN!

Here’s a few more pics to show some of the detail.

I used Cinnamon Cider as my card base, fence, and sign, Poppy Parade for the balloon, and Basic White for the Happy Birthday sentiment and images.  Blends were used to color all the images.

Here’s a quick little video to show you how the cards move.  I will work on a tutorial for how to make the 2nd card and hope to have that finished in the next few days :).  The list of products I used is below the Blog Hop List.

I hope you enjoyed taking a spin with me, lol!  Hop on over and check out what Sharon Maranich has to share with you, I know you will love it.  And please visit the rest of our blog hoppers.  We enjoy sharing our projects with all of you 🙂

Happy Stamping!

NC Demo’s February Blog Hop – Sale-a-Brate Good Times!

Well, we’ve made it through the first month of 2021!  January is not one of my favorite months, mainly because I don’t like being cold and I’m usually exhausted from all the holiday happenings.  But, the weather has been pretty mild, I’ve gotten back on track with my clean eating regime and even lost a few holiday pounds 🙂  So not too bad, all in all.  But one of the things I can always look forward to in January is SU!’s Sale-a-Bration event!  This year it’s slightly different than years past, in that it only runs 2 months instead of the usual 3.  The new twist is that we will have a 2nd Sale-a-Bration event in July & August this year, so that’s something to look forward to!  And if you aren’t familiar with Sale-a-Bration, it’s a promotion where you earn FREE product when you place a minimum $50 order (before tax & S/H), and you earn additional free product for every $50 increment!

Here’s a link so you can see all the items available to earn – SAB Brochure

So, we were to use a Sale-a-Bration product for our projects this month..  You may have just come from Laurie Meier’s blog and I know she shared a great project with you.  For my project, I decided to go with Touch of Ink and the Oh So Ombre 6×6 DSP from Sale-a-Bration.  And I used a tutorial that I found on Splitcoast Stampers.  If you’ve never checked out Splitcoast Stampers, you should because it’s a wonderful resource for inspiration!  The tutorial is for a Vertical Easel card and was created by fellow demonstrator, Wendy Lee.  You may be familiar with easel cards but they are generally done in a horizontal format, so this one really caught my eye because of the different take on it.  I’ll include the link to the tutorial at the end of this post.

Since I wanted to also use the Oh So Ombre DSP for my card, I used the coordinating colors of Rococo Rose and Granny Apple Green for my ink and cardstock choices.  I used the Stitched Shape Dies to cut out an oval in Rococo Rose and a smaller one in Basic White.  I then stamps the detailed leaves with Granny Apple Green and then stamped off to get a lighter color of ink for the inside of the image.  I then stamped the hummingbird on a piece of scrap Basic White using the same technique, but using Rococo Rose ink, except that I stamped off the inside image twice because I wanted a much softer shade for the inside of the bird.  The bird was then fussy cut and added to the ovals with dimensionals.  I then used Wink of Stella on the hummingbird.  Unfortunately, it just doesn’t photograph very well, but that bird is really sparkly!!  I cut 2 small squares using Basic White cardstock and stamped the sentiments using Memento ink.  I added a little background to both by stamping off twice with Granny Apple Green ink to get a very light image.  I colored 3 rhinestones with Light Rococo Rose blends and added them to the upper left corner of the card. I also stamped the floral image on a scrap piece of Basic White using Rococo Rose and the same technique as the hummingbird.  That was then fussy cut and added to the inside of the card.  The fussy cutting is what took the longest on this card, everything else was pretty quick!  I also decorated the envelope flap with a piece of DSP from the Oh So Ombre pack.  I love how it just adds a little more coordination to the project.

Here’s the link for the tutorial which includes all the sizes you need.  This fold lends itself to so many possibilities!  I hope you give it a try.

NC Demos December Blog Hop – Ending the Year with Designer Series Paper!

Hello everyone!  I’m so glad to be back in the lineup for the monthly NC demo blog hop!  I really messed up last month by not having my post ready to send to Tracie Evans Langley (our Blog Hop Fearless Leader!) in time for the hop 😦  I hate to miss these events because there are always so many talented demonstrators who participate and I always come away with new ideas.  So, having said that, you probably just came here from Tracie Evans Langley’s blog and I know she shared an amazing project 🙂

Our guidelines this month were to use some of our beautiful Designer Series Papers and embellishments from the Annual Catalog.  We usually have 2 active catalogs at any given time, our Annual comes out in June, and then we have 2 mini catalogs that come out in the 1st half (Jan – Jun) and 2nd half (Jul-Dec) of each year.  And sometimes we get really excited when the mini’s come out and our Annual catalog products don’t get the love they deserve.  So this is a good time to delve back into that catalog and feature the beautiful projects there.

One of my very favorite suites in the Annual catalog is the Peony Garden Suite.  And I absolutely love the DSP colors!  Gray has become one of my favorite neutrals.  And while this DSP has some beautiful floral patterns, there are some pretty awesome geometric patterns as well.  And they are perfect for stamping directly onto those patterns.  So that’s what I did for my projects.  I created one card that used monotones, and the other I added a little color to.  (My designs are based on a card I saw from Ronda Wade, I just made a few adjustments to my versions)

For both cards, I started with a base of Gray Granite cardstock, 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, scored at 4 1/4.  Next, I cut the first DSP pattern showing the floral side at 5 1/4 x 2 1/2.  The Gray Granite Shimmer ribbon was wrapped around the DSP and then a bow was tied on the front for the monotone card.  I tied 3 separate pieces of ribbon for the colored version.

Then for the focal image, I used a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4 x 3, and a geometric pattern of DSP at 3 3/4 x 2 3/4.  I stamped the Peony image directly on the geometric DSP using Memento Black ink.  You could use Gray Granite ink, but I wanted a little more emphasis for the image.   Stamping on top of a pattern gives the image more depth, I think.  For the colored version, I used Old Olive and Calypso Coral inks and a Q-tip to add a little color to the image.  The focal image panels were added with dimensionals to the card front and finished off with the Elegant Faceted Gems.  I used the Dark Calypso Coral Blend marker to color the white gems on the colored version.  And I used 2 different sentiments from the stamp set to finish off the card.  And of course, a card of mine would not be complete without Wink of Stella, which I applied to the darker parts of the Peony.

The monotone version great card for a casual stamper as it uses minimal supplies and steps.  The colored version would be a slight step up.

Here are a few more pics:

Thanks for visiting my blog and please continue on to see what the rest of our talented group has to share.  Tina Lesson is next and she has a great fun fold card to share with you!

Wonder & Wishes All In One Gift Card Holder and Card

Well, I have to start this post off with a facepalm 😦  This was supposed to be part of the November NC Demos Blog Hop…and I missed it.  I have been so absorbed in other things that even though I had started this post several weeks ago with the intention of having it ready to go, I just missed the boat entirely.  UGH…can I just chalk it up to 2020??

But, since I did have my project completed, I will share it with you.  This is a great idea for giving a gift card for any occasion, I’m just focusing on it being for Christmas right now.  And the layout is not my original idea.  This was created by the crafty duo from Crafty Person, a team of demonstrators who provide a great blog/email service to other demonstrators.  This was their November project and I just fell in love with it.  I just changed up the stamps and DSP for my project.

I used very traditional colors for my card.  And the Heart Warming Hugs Designer Series Paper worked perfectly.  I matched Real Red and Pear Pizzazz cardstock and used Soft Suede for Mr. Deer. Adding some Gold Foil paper and Red Sheer Ribbon really sets off the whole design.

What I like most about this card is that the gift card holder is actually on the front of the card, instead of inside as we generally see.  You just pull the tab at the top and the gift card is attached to the Real Red Cardstock panel!

And of course, you can add any sentiment you have on hand.  I used the sentiment that comes with the Wishes and Wonders stamp set.
