NC Demos October Blog Hop – My Favorite Things

Welcome to the October NC Demos Blog Hop!  You may have just hopped over from Tina Lesson’s blog, wasn’t her project great?!

This month our challenge was to share our favorite thing or things from the Annual or Holiday catalog.  I definitely had to narrow it down because my post would be like a small novel if I didn’t!  I was able to zero in on one particular stamp set from the Holiday catalog.  I’m am a big fan of penguins. I have always loved them, I just think they are so cute.  Back when I first started dating my husband, he knew how much I loved them and while on a trip, he brought back this guy for me 🙂

And when we got married, he really stepped up his game!  This was his wedding gift to me, a beautiful black diamond penguin necklace.  Needless to say, he’s a keeper!

So, when I saw the new stamp set, I knew I had to add it to my collection.  We’ve had a number of stamp sets in the past that featured penguins, but they were always more whimsical.  I love the real look of these little guys.  And the fact that we can put hats and scarves on them just makes them even better.

This is one of the cards I made recently for an NC Demo Quarterly swap.  There is very little stamping required, it’s more about layers and embellishments.

I love the new 6 x 6 Wrapped in Plaid DSP.  I’ve always been a fan of plaid and I love the colors used in this DSP.  Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy and Shaded Spruce look very elegant together.  And this DSP can easily be used for non-holiday themed cards.

I used Shaded Spruce for the card base and ink for stamping the background on the front flap.  The card base is 6.5″  x 5.5″, scored at 4.25″. The penguin was stamped using Black Memento on a piece of Whisper White that was cut using one of the Stitched Nested dies.  I added a bit of Mango Melody color to his beak.  Wink of Stella was applied to the penguin (have I told you how much I LOVE Wink of Stella?) The scarf was stamped on a scrap of Whisper White and colored using light Shaded Spruce blends, fussy cut and attached to the penguin. I colored one of the rhinestones using the light Cherry Cobbler Blends and attached that to the scarf.  I used the Stitched Nested dies to cut a larger piece of Gold Foil paper, then mounted the stamped penguin piece to that using dimensionals.

The finished piece was layered on to the front panel of the card and a piece of the Shara Sand/Night of Navy Bakers twine was wrapped around the front panel and tied in a bow.

The inside has panels of Whisper White and Wrapped in Plaid DSP (2″ x 5 3/8″) with the sentiment stamped in Night of Navy.  I used a small piece of leftover DSP scrap to break up the Whisper White cardstock.

I hope you enjoyed my card!  Now please follow along to see the rest of the NC Demo’s blog posts.  Laurie Meier is next and I know you’re going to love her project 🙂

Merry Moose Card

3a634ebc_284b_47c1_8e3a_4730b5cc17bc-1

Welcome!  Today I’d like to share a card with you that uses the Merry Moose bundle from our Holiday Catalog.  It also uses several punches from the Annual Catalog as well. I love bundles because they give you everything you need to make great projects at a discounted price.   You can see a list of all the supplies I used at the bottom of this post.  I tend to not give my punches the love they deserve.  They are a quick way of pulling a card together without a lot of time and effort.

I think the punches give you instant gratification, and who doesn’t like that?  I’m also sharing a little tip on using the Classic Label punch.  Did you know you can ‘extend’ the label beyond the punched length?  You can punch the label and cut it in half.  Then take either end and attach it to the label with your sentiment, as shown below.

I mounted the Moose using dimensionals to give it a little more depth.  And although it’s not in the list of supplies, I brushed Wink of Stella on his antlers to make them stand out a bit.

This card could be used for a lot of occasions just by changing out the sentiments.  It definitely has a bit of a masculine feel to it, but it’s really appropriate for anyone!

If you’d like written instructions for this card, simply comment here and I’ll send them to you.  And I’m really excited to inform you that I now have my own YouTube channel!  It’s the same name as my blog, Toni Mari’s Creations and I would LOVE it if you’d pop over and like my video and subscribe to my channel.  I’m really trying to make more of a social media presence, and the more subscribers I get the more I can do with it 🙂

Fall Cards

NC Demos September Blog Hop

Happy Fall, everyone!  We are now in my very favorite season!  I love the cooler mornings and the beautiful colors of the leaves changing.  And Pumpkins, cornstalks, mums…anything and everything associated with Fall!  And my birthday is in September so that probably adds to my love of it 🙂

This month we were to create anything with a Fall theme. You may have just come from  Tina’s post and I know she had a fabulous project to share.    We always have at least one new Fall themed stamp set that comes out in the Holiday catalog and I always purchase it.  I do every year and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon, lol!  This month, I used 2 different sets to make to very two different cards.  One uses traditional Fall colors and the other uses one of the many new trending colors that you see out in the retail stores now.

My first card uses the Delightful Day Bundle and the Gather Together Bundle.  I love that we can combine sets from different catalogs.  This is also one of the cards I just used for our Quarterly NC Demo gathering on Saturday 🙂

And I also decided to use something a little different for layering on this card.  In addition to the piece of Soft Suede that I used the Subtles Dynamic Embossing Folder on, I also cut apart one of our Copper Dotted Treat Bags to use as well.

I stamped the pumpkins in Cajun Craze on Whisper White card stock and then brushes Wink of Stella over it, which pulls a little bit of the ink color on to the image.  That was then die cut and I also used the Come to Gather DSP to die cut the leaf.

The finished card!

For my second card, I went with non-traditional colors.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the finished product but once it was all assembled, I liked it!  This card uses the Harvest Hellow Bundle, which is in the Holiday Catalog.

While I love all the stamp sets that come with a coordinating die set, I really enjoy using the bundles that come with a punch.  It’s that instant gratification thing, I guess.  But this card was quick and easy to put together.  I just stamped the pumpkins on different patterns of the Come to Gather DSP and a scrap of Mint Macaron card stock using Early Espresso ink, and then punched them out.  I used a scrap of Early Espresso card stock to get the stems, then I trimmed them a little bit.  After that, I brushed on some Wink of Stella.  I’ve said this before but that is one of my favorite embellishments, it just adds a little something to the finished card.  It’s not always easy to see in a photograph but it really packs a punch in person.

My favorite sentiment in this stamps set is the Hey There, Pumpkin! because its one of the nicknames I call my grandson, and now that he’s 13, he says he’s too old to be called that.  But I told him it’s my Grandmother privilege to call him whatever I want, lol!

And here’s the finished project!

And I’ve added a new feature to my blog pictures!  If you click on any of the images, you will be directed to a page on my online store that lists all the products I used to make the card.  You can choose to add them all to your shopping cart, or just select the ones that you need since a lot of us have a pretty nice inventory of SU! products already on hand, lol!

I hope you enjoyed my cards and perhaps I’ve pushed you a little outside your comfort zone with the non-traditional example.  Now, please continue hopping along to  Jo Anne’s blog.  She always amazes me with her creative talent!

Happy Stamping!

NC Demo August Blog Hop – Psychedelic Daisy!

Welcome to the NC Demo August Blog Hop!  I missed last month so it seems like forever since I’ve posted something.  I’m glad to be back in the swing of things though because I’ll be sharing lots of new stuff in the coming weeks!  Our Holiday catalog will go live 9/4 and I can’t wait to show you all the amazing new items.  If you’d like a copy for yourself, please let me know and I’ll get one to you.

Getting back to our blog theme, you may have just jumped over from Patricia Todd’s blog and I know she had a great project!  This month we were to make a card using a flower or flowers as inspiration.  I love all sorts of flowers and I really love bright colors.  So when I saw this picture, it was perfect as my inspiration for this month’s card.  These are African orange and yellow daisies and I think they are gorgeous!

I’ve been waiting to play with the new Pigment Sprinkles that were introduced in the Annual Catalog.  We had something similar last year but the colors were not specific to SU!’s colors.  But the Pigment Sprinkles are!  The colors are Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Gorgeous Grape, Mango Melody, Melon Mambo.

Since I wanted to try to get as close to the colors in the inspiration picture, I decided to use both Daffodil Delight and Mango Melody.  And of course, used Granny Apple Green for the leaves.

I started with a piece of our watercolor paper, sprinkled the various colors on the paper and then lightly spritzed with water.  You’ll notice that my colors look a LOT darker than the samples shown in the picture above.  That’s because I sprinkled a LOT of the pigment.  This is a medium where a little goes a long way.  You’ll need to practice to see how much you can vary the color based on how much pigment and water you use.  You can also spritz the paper first and then sprinkle the pigment.  It’s all a matter of preference.  Since I wanted to use this paper pretty quickly, I used our heat gun to accelerate the drying process.

While still wet

After drying

My next step was to stamp various images, using different ink colors to see what I liked best.  It’s a little hard to see the difference, but I used Black Memento InkCajun Craze and Garden Green for the inks to stamp my images.  My preference was the Daisy stamp from the Daisy Delight stamp set because it showed more of the overall background color, and I liked it stamped with Black Memento Ink.

Once I decided which images to use, I punched out the daisies using our Daisy Punch and fussy cut the stem.  Then I had to decide what colors of cardstock I wanted to use to create my card.  After several different layouts, I decided on a Granny Apple Green base, a layer of Whisper White and a smaller layer of Basic Black.  I spritzed the black card stock with water and used our Brick and Mortar Embossing folder.  Next, I used a sponge dauber and Craft White ink and lightly added some color to the black layer to give the bricks a little more definition.  I put my daisy together and used a Clear Faceted Gem colored with Dark Basic Black Blends for the center.  The daisy and stem were mounted with dimensionals so that it would stand out a little more.  All that was left was to use a piece of the leftover watercolor paper to stamp my sentiment, and I used the Here’s A Card stamp set and the 1 1/8″ Scallop punch for that.  I also punched the same sized circle using Granny Apple Green cardstock to use as an offset for the sentiment.

I’m really pleased with how this turned out!  It actually looks just the way I imagined it, and that doesn’t always happen 🙂 And I’m anxious to do more with the Pigment Sprinkles, they are so cool to work with.  Just be sure to keep some hand wipes close by because you WILL need them.  Or at least I did, lol!  Thanks for visiting me and please continue on with our Blog Hop.    Jo Anne Hewins is up next and I know you will love her project!

Happy Stamping!!
