NC Demos December Blog Hop – Ending the Year with Designer Series Paper!

Hello everyone!  I’m so glad to be back in the lineup for the monthly NC demo blog hop!  I really messed up last month by not having my post ready to send to Tracie Evans Langley (our Blog Hop Fearless Leader!) in time for the hop 😦  I hate to miss these events because there are always so many talented demonstrators who participate and I always come away with new ideas.  So, having said that, you probably just came here from Tracie Evans Langley’s blog and I know she shared an amazing project 🙂

Our guidelines this month were to use some of our beautiful Designer Series Papers and embellishments from the Annual Catalog.  We usually have 2 active catalogs at any given time, our Annual comes out in June, and then we have 2 mini catalogs that come out in the 1st half (Jan – Jun) and 2nd half (Jul-Dec) of each year.  And sometimes we get really excited when the mini’s come out and our Annual catalog products don’t get the love they deserve.  So this is a good time to delve back into that catalog and feature the beautiful projects there.

One of my very favorite suites in the Annual catalog is the Peony Garden Suite.  And I absolutely love the DSP colors!  Gray has become one of my favorite neutrals.  And while this DSP has some beautiful floral patterns, there are some pretty awesome geometric patterns as well.  And they are perfect for stamping directly onto those patterns.  So that’s what I did for my projects.  I created one card that used monotones, and the other I added a little color to.  (My designs are based on a card I saw from Ronda Wade, I just made a few adjustments to my versions)

For both cards, I started with a base of Gray Granite cardstock, 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, scored at 4 1/4.  Next, I cut the first DSP pattern showing the floral side at 5 1/4 x 2 1/2.  The Gray Granite Shimmer ribbon was wrapped around the DSP and then a bow was tied on the front for the monotone card.  I tied 3 separate pieces of ribbon for the colored version.

Then for the focal image, I used a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4 x 3, and a geometric pattern of DSP at 3 3/4 x 2 3/4.  I stamped the Peony image directly on the geometric DSP using Memento Black ink.  You could use Gray Granite ink, but I wanted a little more emphasis for the image.   Stamping on top of a pattern gives the image more depth, I think.  For the colored version, I used Old Olive and Calypso Coral inks and a Q-tip to add a little color to the image.  The focal image panels were added with dimensionals to the card front and finished off with the Elegant Faceted Gems.  I used the Dark Calypso Coral Blend marker to color the white gems on the colored version.  And I used 2 different sentiments from the stamp set to finish off the card.  And of course, a card of mine would not be complete without Wink of Stella, which I applied to the darker parts of the Peony.

The monotone version great card for a casual stamper as it uses minimal supplies and steps.  The colored version would be a slight step up.

Here are a few more pics:

Send some Love

There are so many wonderful samples available in our Annual catalog and as I was browsing for some inspiration, I came across this card.  It’s simple but conveys a very important message.   We are in the last quarter of what has been a crazy year, and many of us are stressed out and continue to struggle with the new “normal”.  It’s so easy to lose sight of any positivity, and that’s just not healthy.  It’s more important than ever to reach out and let other’s know that you care about them.  A little note sent to someone unexpectedly may just be the boost that someone desperately needs!

This card can be created with just a few supplies and you can definitely just use what you have on hand.  But I particularly love the stamp set, Comfort and Hope, because it has some amazing sentiments.  And the images are perfect for anyone.  The card above is made using our Notecards with Envelopes (20 cards w/envelopes) which is smaller in size than a regular card, so you don’t really need to do a lot of stamping to send a heartfelt message.  And you can send 20 messages of love with one package 🙂

COMFORT & HOPE CLING STAMP SET

I hope you’ll decide to send some love today!

Happy Stamping,

Toni

NC Demo’s September Blog Hop – All Things Fall!

I could NOT be any happier about this month’s theme, All Things Fall 🙂  This is my absolute favorite time of the year.  It’s my birthday month, and yes, I try to celebrate ALL MONTH, lol!  This year we actually took a couple of days and stayed at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.  It was so nice to get away and the change of scenery was very much needed!

You may have just hopped over from Jo Anne Hewins blog, wasn’t her project amazing?  She always does amazing work!  I have to admit, I have a LOT of Fall themed stamp sets.  I always purchase the new offerings when they come out, I just can’t help myself!  We have some amazing sets in our Aug – Dec Mini catalog, but the set I used for the main part of this card is actually found in our Annual Catalog, it’s called Arrange a Wreath.  This set of stamps and dies is so versatile!  It covers several holiday themes, Valentines. Spring/Easter, Fall, and Christmas.  For my card this month, I actually only used one stamp from the set, but several of the dies.  The sentiment for my card comes from the Celebrations Tidings stamp set (Aug-Dec Mini Catalog).  And while it would be perfect for a Thanksgiving card, you could easily change out the sentiment for any number of occasions!

The card itself doesn’t have a lot of parts to it, but there was a little bit of busywork that I needed to do before I could start putting it together.  I combined the DSP and punches from the Gilded Autumn Suite.  When SU! introduces punches in a suite, there is generally a sheet of DSP that has coordinating images to match the punches.  As in the case with this paper and punches.  In order to get as many images punched from the paper as possible, you do need to fussy cut sections of the DSP so that you can manipulate the punches to get every full image available.  I just sat one evening while watching TV and punched out all the acorns, and oak and maple leaves.  Then I hand cut the smaller leaves.  Another demonstration recently posted that when she finished cutting the acorns, oak and maple leaves she ended up with 136 images!!!  The punches in the bag in the lower right-hand side of the picture are extras that I was able to salvage from the leftover cardstock scraps when I die cut the 2 wreath circles.  We paper crafters NEVER waste cardstock, lol!  I’ll use those punches for a future project ;).

In addition to the Autumn Punch pack, I also used the Banners Pick a Punch for the sentiment.  This punch is great for using up all the extra strips of cardstock that tend to accumulate in my stamp room.  In fact, my plan is to take a day and just stamp multiple sentiments on those strips and save them for later.  It will be a nice timesaver to have ready-to-go sentiment banners.

I featured this card at this month’s card class and everyone just loved it.  Some of the new class attendees had a chance to use the new Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine for the first time and there were lots of positive comments about it.  I had to remind them that we no longer have to run the dies back and forth to get a clean cut, this machine does it on the first pass!  The only time I’ve had to run it through more than once is if I have applied the adhesive sheets to the back of my cardstock.  Once they had their cut pieces, it was easy going for putting this card together.  I had the punched leaves all ready for them in a separate bag so they just had to apply them.  And I found that our mini glue dots made it a breeze to add those tiny leaves to the wreath.

I hope you enjoyed my All Things Fall card!  I can’t wait to play around more with the Arrange a Wreath bundle, the possibilities are endless.  Now, please continue checking out the rest of our bloggers this month.  Tracie Evans Langley is up next and I know she has an amazing project waiting for you.  Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Stamping!

Boho Indigo Product Medley and Tutorial Offer!

The Annual Catalog Inspiration

Boho Indigo Product Medley

Do you ever have times you want to make something, but you just aren’t sure where to start? It’s the blank canvas dilemma of having too many choices. Often, when I’m not sure how to start, I let the artists at Stampin’ Up! help me.

Suites, kits, and medleys – oh my! These artist-designed sets of coordinating products are a great place to get your inspiration flowing. Start with a simple kit project and step it up. Or look for a color combination or a whole design theme. I hope this tip helps you the next time you are looking for inspiration!

I get asked what the difference is between Suites, kits, and medleys? Although they are all groupings of coordinating products to make your crafting experience easier, there are a few difference.

Suites are entire collections of themed products that coordinate. A suite has at least one stamp set, sometimes two and usually has patterned paper, dies or punches, ribbon, and embellishments.

Kits include pre-designed and pre-cut projects. They can be all-inclusive or can include project supplies with coordinating stamps and ink available separately.

Medleys are more like a mini-suite. They are a collection of coordinating supplies, but not as large as a suite, so you get a bit of everything to inspire your creativity at a budge-friendly price point.

Happy Stamping!!

Toni

NU Demos Monthly Blog Hop – Summer Fun!

It’s that time again!  Here we are at the end of July, and my head is spinning that we are already past the halfway point of 2020!!  You may have just hopped over from Tracie Evans Langley‘s blog and I know her project was amazing, they always are!  If so, you know that our topic for this months hop is Summertime!  So here is how my brain works…Summertime=hot=tropics=pineapples, lol!  So since I had pineapples on my mind this is what I came up with.  I knew I wanted to change up my normal routine of posting a card so I went with a 3D home decor type project this month.  I’ve had these Tiny Treat Boxes in my stash for a while and they needed to come out of hiding!  And since I always have a fairly substantial assortment of paper bags, I decided to just stamp one of those to make a coordinating gift bag.

This project is super easy and quick!  I’ve included instructions and a video at the bottom of this post.  But the pic below shows you the pieces you’ll need to make the tealight.  And I used Adhesive Sheets to make it easier to attach the 2 pieces for the pineapple top, that’s why the top die cut is showing a white side instead of Just Jade. Those sheets are now a required tool in my craft room!

To decorate the gift bag, I just used an old technique of coloring directly on to the stamp so that I could get both colors I wanted for the pineapple.  I tend to forget about this technique, but it’s a great use of our markers!

Here’s an important tip on die-cutting the pineapple bottom.  You are going to cut your DSP slightly shorter than the length of the die.  This is because the die is a tiny bit larger than the 2″ area you will be covering on the treat box.  So you will want to work with a 2″ strip of your DSP of choice when cutting the 4 pieces of the pineapple bottom.  You can only cut 2 bottoms from the 2″ x 6″ piece of DSP so you will need 2 of those strips.

The other tip is for the pineapple top.  I wanted to adhere 2 of them back to back, with a strip of DSP in the center to stabilize it and give me a base to attach it to the top of the treat box.  In order to do this, you need to cut one top using the pattern you want to show, and then cut another from the BACK design of that DSP.  This allows you to flip it over and match up your first die cut.  I did use the adhesive sheets on the back of the DSP that I wanted showing

Here’s a picture of the tea lights while on 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my project.  It was a lot of fun to make 🙂  Now please continue through our hop to see the other amazing projects shared!  Amy Kinler is next up and she always has such fun projects 🙂

Celebrate Sunflowers – Fun Fold Gift Card Holder

Hello, and thanks for popping by today 🙂  I wanted to share with you a card I recently made as part of our NC Demonstrators Stamp Along day.  This is our second time doing this on our FB page and it’s been a lot of fun!  Several demonstrators volunteer to do either a live video, a pre-recorded video, or share a PDF of a project they’ve made.  I chose to make a card that can double as a gift cardholder.  And I used our Celebrate Sunflowers Bundle, the Flowers for Every Season 6×6 DSP and several of the new 2020-2022 In Colors (that coordinate with the DSP).

This card can be made with the pocket for a gift card/cash, or without.  You can also dress up the inside of the card a little more by adding additional DSP panels to cover the white inside the card, it’s entirely up to you!

Take a look at the video for additional tips for making this card 🙂

NC Demos June Blog Hop – New Beginnings

Welcome to our monthly NC Demos Blog Hop!  It’s really hard for me to grasp that we’re at the end of June and knocking on the door of July!  I think we should request a general “do-over” for this year, because it’s been a real mess!  But one of the constants that have helped me through the stress is stamping.  I can lose myself for hours in my craft room and it does allow me to clear my head of all the noise that’s going on.  I think that is true for many of us crafters.  And speaking of, you may have just hopped over from Tina Lesson‘s blog and I know she had a wonderful project that she shared!

This month’s theme was interesting!  It is something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue!  And this is what I designed based on that criteria.

So, here’s the breakdown:

Something Old – Tailored Tag Punch

Something New – Indigo Boho Medley

Something Borrowed – I saw this card layout on one of our Dutch Demonstrators Blog – Janneke Dijkstrade Jong (Happystampin.nl) – and borrowed it!

Something Blue – I used Night of Navy and Misty Moonlight inks, as well as the various DSP patterns from the Indigo Boho Medley.

I knew as soon as I saw this Medley in the new Annual Catalog that I was going to be at the top of my wish list.  Blue is my favorite color so this was right up my alley!  Medley’s are a great way to start off your stamping experience.  The only things you need to add are acrylic blocks to mount the stamps and adhesive.

As I mentioned above, the inspiration for the card layout came from one of our demonstrators in the Netherlands.  I loved how she used the Tailored Tag but modified the width of the cardstock she was using to produce a different looking tag.  She used a 1 1/2″ width of DSP to get the result.  It’s always fun to find new ways to use the tools we have on hand!

When I purchased the Boho Indigo Medley I knew that at least one of my projects was going to incorporate yellow because I just love the pairing of blue and yellow.  And when I placed a piece of the Bumble Bee In Color DSP next to the DSP found in the medley, I knew I had a winner!  I’ve included a PDF Tutorial for my card at the bottom of this post 🙂
