NC Demos June Blog Hop – New Beginnings

Welcome to our monthly NC Demos Blog Hop!  It’s really hard for me to grasp that we’re at the end of June and knocking on the door of July!  I think we should request a general “do-over” for this year, because it’s been a real mess!  But one of the constants that have helped me through the stress is stamping.  I can lose myself for hours in my craft room and it does allow me to clear my head of all the noise that’s going on.  I think that is true for many of us crafters.  And speaking of, you may have just hopped over from Tina Lesson‘s blog and I know she had a wonderful project that she shared!

This month’s theme was interesting!  It is something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue!  And this is what I designed based on that criteria.

So, here’s the breakdown:

Something Old – Tailored Tag Punch

Something New – Indigo Boho Medley

Something Borrowed – I saw this card layout on one of our Dutch Demonstrators Blog – Janneke Dijkstrade Jong (Happystampin.nl) – and borrowed it!

Something Blue – I used Night of Navy and Misty Moonlight inks, as well as the various DSP patterns from the Indigo Boho Medley.

I knew as soon as I saw this Medley in the new Annual Catalog that I was going to be at the top of my wish list.  Blue is my favorite color so this was right up my alley!  Medley’s are a great way to start off your stamping experience.  The only things you need to add are acrylic blocks to mount the stamps and adhesive.

As I mentioned above, the inspiration for the card layout came from one of our demonstrators in the Netherlands.  I loved how she used the Tailored Tag but modified the width of the cardstock she was using to produce a different looking tag.  She used a 1 1/2″ width of DSP to get the result.  It’s always fun to find new ways to use the tools we have on hand!

When I purchased the Boho Indigo Medley I knew that at least one of my projects was going to incorporate yellow because I just love the pairing of blue and yellow.  And when I placed a piece of the Bumble Bee In Color DSP next to the DSP found in the medley, I knew I had a winner!  I’ve included a PDF Tutorial for my card at the bottom of this post 🙂

When Life Hands You Lemons…

Sometimes in life, the best-laid plans just get blown away.  I was supposed to be attending one of our NC Demo Quarterly events in Hendersonville, NC.  And as you might have guessed, that event was canceled due to Corona Virus restrictions.  BUT, one of our amazing demonstrations, Martinette Horner,  coordinated an event that allowed us to still get together virtually, and share some wonderful live videos, pre-recorded videos, and tutorials.  I did a pre-recorded video to share with our NC Demo group and thought I would share it with you as well.

One of my favorite suites in the new Annual catalog is the Peony Garden Suite.  There’s so much about it that caught my attention, the beautiful images in the stamps set, the dies, the DSP, and I especially love the color combination it uses, Petal Pink, Gray Granite, Basic Gray, and White.  I’ve always been a fan of the pink and gray combo.

I was initially intimidated when I saw the dies for the flowers.  I just felt it was going to be complicated, but I was so wrong!  The assembly of the flower was incredibly easy, as you’ll see when you watch the video.  I really love how the Peony looks cut from our beautiful Champagne Foil paper.  The possibilities are endless with what you can make.  I’ve included a tutorial for this card as well.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Birds and Branches

Happy Sunday, Everyone!  Today I wanted to show you a card I recently created for an NC Demonstrator Swap.  The swap requirements were to use new products from the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog.  And if you aren’t familiar with what a swap is, it’s when a group of people sign up to create a card based on specific criteria.  We are told the total number of cards to make and they are mailed to the person who is hosting the swap.  Once they’ve collected all the cards from the participants, they sort all the cards and mail one design each back to everyone.  So we end up with a variety of card samples to share at our classes or use for blog posts.  It’s a really fun way to add cards to our collections without us each making them ourselves.

My card featured the new Birds and Branches set and some other products from the new catalog (you can see all the products below).  I used the circle die first on a piece of 4″ x 5 1/4″ paper.  Then I used my Blends to color the leaves and berries.  Once that was done, I took that layer of card stock and ran it through my embossing machine using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder.  I just love the look that the texture gives to the branches and berries!

I then laid that layer over the front of my Thick Whisper White card stock (4 1/4″ x 11″, scored @ 5 1/2″), and using a pencil, I placed a small dot at the bottom of the circle.  This was to give me guidance as to where to stamp the nest.  I stamped the nest using Crumb Cake ink on the front of the folder Thick Whisper White base.  Next, I took a length of the White Crinkle Ribbon and wrapped it around the die-cut and embossed layer and tied a bow, then attached that layer to the card front using dimensionals.  The bird was stamped with Rococo Rose ink on Blushing Bride card stock and then die cut and also attached with dimensionals.  The sentiment was stamped using the Many Mates stamp set and then die cut using the Tasteful Labels die.  That was attached to the front with dimensionals as well.  The final step was to add some Wink of Stella to the berries and that was my finished card!

I hope you enjoyed my card 🙂

Happy Stamping!

The 2020-2021 Annual Catalog is LIVE!

Woo Hoo!!  The new catalog is officially live which means that I can share the catalog download with you!  It’s always nice to have an online reference but for me, there’s nothing like having a physical catalog in my hands.  I love grabbing a beverage and sitting down to browse through all the beautiful samples, and make my wish list.  And boy, is that list long already, lol!  If you’d like your own catalog (and don’t already have a SU! demonstrator!), then please contact me by leaving a comment on this post.

Along with the launch of the new catalog comes 2 great incentives!

The 1st incentive is that anyone who holds a party or shops during the month of June will receive extra Stampin’ Rewards with a qualifying purchase of $250 or more!  It’s definitely a great time to gather a few friends and host a party (and we can do virtual parties!).  Or if you aren’t up for hosting, then just gather a few orders from friends to reach the qualifying purchase requirement and then split the rewards.  Or if you are like me, I can pretty quickly reach that requirement with my own order, lol!  Keep in mind that this is above and beyond the normal rewards that you see below.

===============================================================

The 2nd amazing incentive for June is for anyone who is interested in joining SU! and my team!  We already have a pretty great joining offer but you can get even MORE if you sign up between June 3rd and June 30th.

Stampin’ Up!’s Starter Kit is completely customizable. Build it your way! For just $99 you get:

* Your choice of up to $125 worth of any current Stampin’ Up! products
* A business supply pack valued at $50

That’s a total value of $175 (USD)

And the extra incentive for June is that you get to pick ANY one bundle (punch or die) to add to your starter kit.  That is up to a $60 value!!  Here’s a list of all the available bundles.

So Grateful

We are definitely all going through a very strange and possibly stressful time with the current health crisis.  And even though a lot of us are inconvenienced and impacted in different ways, those who are on the front lines are definitely feeling the brunt of things, in my humble opinion.  The medical professionals are doing all they can possibly do given the ever-changing parameters.  And those in the service industry – grocery clerks, delivery persons, restaurant owners, and anyone whose business is deemed essential are facing day to day challenges to try to help us with everyday needs.  These folks are true heroes in my eyes.  And they have my heartfelt gratitude.

So, I wanted to create a card that honors them.  I created the card using our new Ornate Gardens Bundle Suite.  This is a bit of a sneak peek, because this suite is going to be featured in our 2020-2021 Annual Catalog!  And YOU can actually purchase it now.  No need to wait until the catalog goes live in June, isn’t that great 🙂

I decided to take a different route than to focus primarily on the floral aspects of the suite, although they are quite beautiful!  I decided to create my own background using the small border stamp featured in the Ornate Style stamp set.

I stamped this image on a diagonal and just filled the card layer with it using Early Espresso ink.  Then I went back and colored some of the swirls using Light Mint Macaron Blends.  And to finish off the background, I used Wink of Stella over the Mint Macaron.

Next, I used the dies from the Ornate Style Bundle.  I used Early Espresso card stock and then I cut so I’d just have a top and bottom piece.  I stamped the greeting, So Grateful on Mint Macaron cardstock using Early Espresso Ink and then adhered to the top and bottom pieces of the cut frame pieces to the greeting.

Next, I stamped the small daisy on Whisper White using Early Espresso Ink, and added some color with Light Mint Macaron Blend, and then a little more Wink of Stella over the petals.  I fussy cut the image and added one of the Gilded Gems for the center of the daisy.

To finish the card, I wrapped a piece of Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon around the stamped panel and tied a small bow on the right-hand side.  The greeting and daisy were added with dimensionals.

I hope you enjoyed my card and remember to thank those who are so instrumental in helping us through these trying times!
