NC Demos June Blog Hop – New Beginnings

Welcome to our monthly NC Demos Blog Hop!  It’s really hard for me to grasp that we’re at the end of June and knocking on the door of July!  I think we should request a general “do-over” for this year, because it’s been a real mess!  But one of the constants that have helped me through the stress is stamping.  I can lose myself for hours in my craft room and it does allow me to clear my head of all the noise that’s going on.  I think that is true for many of us crafters.  And speaking of, you may have just hopped over from Tina Lesson‘s blog and I know she had a wonderful project that she shared!

This month’s theme was interesting!  It is something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue!  And this is what I designed based on that criteria.

So, here’s the breakdown:

Something Old – Tailored Tag Punch

Something New – Indigo Boho Medley

Something Borrowed – I saw this card layout on one of our Dutch Demonstrators Blog – Janneke Dijkstrade Jong (Happystampin.nl) – and borrowed it!

Something Blue – I used Night of Navy and Misty Moonlight inks, as well as the various DSP patterns from the Indigo Boho Medley.

I knew as soon as I saw this Medley in the new Annual Catalog that I was going to be at the top of my wish list.  Blue is my favorite color so this was right up my alley!  Medley’s are a great way to start off your stamping experience.  The only things you need to add are acrylic blocks to mount the stamps and adhesive.

As I mentioned above, the inspiration for the card layout came from one of our demonstrators in the Netherlands.  I loved how she used the Tailored Tag but modified the width of the cardstock she was using to produce a different looking tag.  She used a 1 1/2″ width of DSP to get the result.  It’s always fun to find new ways to use the tools we have on hand!

When I purchased the Boho Indigo Medley I knew that at least one of my projects was going to incorporate yellow because I just love the pairing of blue and yellow.  And when I placed a piece of the Bumble Bee In Color DSP next to the DSP found in the medley, I knew I had a winner!  I’ve included a PDF Tutorial for my card at the bottom of this post 🙂

Staying Calm among the Chaos

The Sale-A-Bration Last Chance
Hello and Happy Monday!  I hope you are well and managing life through these very uncertain times right now.  We are definitely navigating some unknown territory with this virus and it has many people understandably concerned.  And while I look at social media fairly regularly, it can be a bit overwhelming right now with information that at times seems to be contradictory.  My personal recommendation is to follow the CDC website and use that as a source of information.  It is also good to keep up to date with your state and local county news to see what recommendations they are offering for where you live.  But above all else, I am remaining calm and practical in my day to day activities.  And I hope you are as well.

So, what can you do if you are practicing social distancing and limiting your outside activities?  Why you stamp of course!  My plan is to catch up on creating some cards for occasions I have coming up and playing with some of the new items I’ve recently purchased.  I also am planning to increase my videos so that people who are staying at home can watch and use them as inspiration for their own projects.  So stay tuned for more posts going on my YouTube channel.  I would LOVE it if you would subscribe!  Once I receive a specific number of followers, I can start doing LIVE YouTube videos 🙂  Below is the link to my channel:

Sale-A-Bration Top 5

As I promised a few days ago, I want to share a little more detail about the current Top 5 picks from the Sale-a-Bration offering.   It seems from the last couple of years results that our consumables (paper, embellishments, kits, etc) have been slightly more popular than stamps and dies.

Don’t forget, the Sale-a-Bration products are only available until March 31st, or while supplies last!  Don’t let these amazing products slip through your fingers!

Top 5 Sale-A-Bration Items

1.Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper

2.The Gang’s All Meer Cling Stamp Set (English)
152294s This stamp set is beyond cute! There’s so much you can do with these images, it’s a great set to use the Masking Technique.
3.Lily Impressions Designer Series Paper

Top 5 Items from the Mini Catalog!

Do you ever wonder what our hottest items are when a new catalog is unveiled?  Well, I’m here today to share that news with you!  As you know, items appeal to people in so many different ways, we all have our likes and dislikes.  But I have to admit that I must have my finger on the pulse this time because I have already purchased all but one of the top 5 items, lol!  Have you purchased any of these items, or are they on your wishlist?  If you are interested in getting any of these sets, I’ve included the links on the photos so that you can get to them quickly in my online store 🙂

!.  Peaceful Poppies Suite – this is the whole shebang!  The suite comes with 2 stamp sets, dies, Designer Series Paper, White Crinkle Ribbon and a package of coordinating elements to help extend your creativity.  And here’s a tip you will want to save, you can take our SU! Blends and color the white ribbon any color you want!  This ribbon is a dream to work with, it ties so easily and doesn’t add a lot of bulk to your finished design.  You can click HERE to see a video of all the products in this awesome suite!

2.  Honeybee Bundle – If you are a lover of bees and beehives, this bundle is perfect for you!

And did you know, we have a coordinating SAB product for this bundle as well 🙂  The Designer Series Paper is not part of the bundle above.  But you can purchase the bundle and get the SAB items for free!

3.  Painted Poppies Bundle (just a segment of the Peaceful Poppies Suite)

4.  Heartfelt Bundle – While Valentines Day is very popular in the US, this set can certainly be used for many other occasions such as Weddings, anniversaries, or even just a “thinking of you” moment.  And I love the coordinating punches.  If you have scraps of designer series paper or cardstock lying around, use one of our many punches to create a stockpile of embellishments for upcoming projects!

5.  So Sentimental Bundle – I love having new sentiments to use, you can never have too many!  And having coordinating dies to go along with them makes it so easy to add them to your cards.  And don’t forget, sentiments aren’t just for cards, they can be used for so many things.  Take a look at the video so see how you can create adorable treats using some elements from the Heartfelt Bundle along with the So Sentimental Bundle.

So, were you surprised by the top 5?  I also have the top 5 Sale-a-Bration info that I will share with you on another post.  Remember, we still have 2 months of SAB left and we will also be revealing some new coordinating products on February 4th that you can pair up with both the 2020 Mini Catalog and SAB items!  Happy Stamping!

2020 Mini Catalog, 3D Projects, Cards, Stampin' UP!

NC Demo’s December Blog Hop – Pick Three!

Welcome to the last blog hop for 2019!!  How is this even possible?  I swear that once we hit Labor Day, the rest of the year just flies by.  By the time we publish this blog, Christmas will be over and hopefully, everyone had a lovely holiday.  Now for that few days of precious peace and quiet before we gear up for the new year.  You may have just hopped over from Tina Lesson’s blog, and I  know she had some great projects to share 🙂

Our theme this month is Pick Three!  We were to pick one stamp set and use it in three ways.  I choose to extend this challenge and used a suite in 3 ways.  It’s always nice to see how to incorporate the wonderful items that coordinate within a suite.   I chose to make a card and two 3D projects for this month’s hop.  And because there are 3 projects, it may be a little picture heavy!

Project 1 was the card I recently submitted for a card swap in the Stampin’ UP! Leaders group.  I really love the pairing of Mint Macaron and Smokey Slate.  I think they compliment each other very well.  And I added a bit of pink with the Flirty Flamingo Light Blend marker on the perfume bottle.  I added few little embellishments with the Mint Macaron Sheer Linen Ribbon and Silver Metallic Thread.  There’s also Wink of Stella on the perfume bottle but it never photographs well.  I used the Subtle Embossing folder on the Mint Macaron layer.  This is one of my very favorite embossing folders.  It does exactly what it’s supposed to do, add a subtle bit of texture to your card.  I added one of the stamp images from the Dressed to Impress stamp set and a sentiment from Peaceful Moments.

The 2nd project is a holder for a Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer.

I found the pattern from a post by Twila Davis (she does the most amazing 3D items!) and just made a couple of my own adjustments.  And this project only uses the 6×6 DSP from the Best Dressed Suite.  One of my favorite patterns in this DSP package is the perfume bottles.  They are just too cute!  I also used the Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding that goes with the Peaceful Poppies Suite.  This ribbon is so versatile!  This is a must-have accessory from the Mini Catalog in my opinion.  You can color the ribbon using our Blends so it virtually can be any color you need!  I used the Dark Mint Macaron to color the ribbon for this project.  You just have to give it a minute to completely dry and then you are good to go!

Holder Measurements:

Holder base – 8.5″ x 2″ – score @ 3.75″ and 4.75″.  Using Delightful Tag punch, punch both ends of the base

Holder Band – 6.5″ x 1.75″ – score @ 1.25″, 2.25″, 4.25″ and 5.25″.  Place adhesive on the back of this band (just the piece that will be on the front and back of the holder, not the side pieces) and wrap around the folded base.  This helps keep it secure.

DSP band – 6″ x 1.5″.  I didn’t score this piece, I simply added some adhesive to the backside and wrapped it around the card stock band.  Since I used a 6×6 piece of DSP, it didn’t completely meet at the back of the card stock band.  If you are using 12 x 12 DSP, you will cut it at 6.5″ x 1.5″ and it will completely wrap around the cardstock band.

And last but not least, my 3rd project is a treat box that Erica Cerwin shared.

I loved the unique shape of it and thought it was going to be a little challenging to make.  But it’s actually just a basic lidded box with an added topper of a piece of cardstock cut using our Stitched Nested Dies!  It totally changes the look.  I used the Scripty Embossing Folder to give it a more feminine look, a small piece of the Best Dressed DSP cut with a smaller Stitched Nested die, some Pink Petal Metallic Edged Ribbon (from the Parisian Blossoms Suite) and a pink tassel from the Best Dressed Suite.  I attached the ribbon and tassel with a couple of glue dots. This is a great way to show that we can coordinate items from other suite offerings as well!  I tucked a small square soap that I purchased at a boutique in VA a few months ago.

The box base is 7.5″ x 5.25″

– score on long side at 1″, 3.25″, 4.25″ and 6.5″

– score on short side at 1″ and 4.25″

– trim each of the square tabs at an angle

– Place strong adhesive on the outside of all the square tabs.  Fold up the tabs on the left and in the center into the left side rectangles

– then fold the right-hand squares into the other rectangles (sorry, I forgot to take a picture of these last 2 steps 😦 )

I had a great time working on the projects this month, and while I tried to keep everything within one suite, I’m really glad that we have so many products that coordinate so well across the board.  This is a great selling point for our customers, don’t you think?

Thanks for stopping by, and please continue through the hop.  Frances Wagner is next and I know she has some wonderful projects to share!

Fall Cards

NC Demos September Blog Hop

Happy Fall, everyone!  We are now in my very favorite season!  I love the cooler mornings and the beautiful colors of the leaves changing.  And Pumpkins, cornstalks, mums…anything and everything associated with Fall!  And my birthday is in September so that probably adds to my love of it 🙂

This month we were to create anything with a Fall theme. You may have just come from  Tina’s post and I know she had a fabulous project to share.    We always have at least one new Fall themed stamp set that comes out in the Holiday catalog and I always purchase it.  I do every year and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon, lol!  This month, I used 2 different sets to make to very two different cards.  One uses traditional Fall colors and the other uses one of the many new trending colors that you see out in the retail stores now.

My first card uses the Delightful Day Bundle and the Gather Together Bundle.  I love that we can combine sets from different catalogs.  This is also one of the cards I just used for our Quarterly NC Demo gathering on Saturday 🙂

And I also decided to use something a little different for layering on this card.  In addition to the piece of Soft Suede that I used the Subtles Dynamic Embossing Folder on, I also cut apart one of our Copper Dotted Treat Bags to use as well.

I stamped the pumpkins in Cajun Craze on Whisper White card stock and then brushes Wink of Stella over it, which pulls a little bit of the ink color on to the image.  That was then die cut and I also used the Come to Gather DSP to die cut the leaf.

The finished card!

For my second card, I went with non-traditional colors.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the finished product but once it was all assembled, I liked it!  This card uses the Harvest Hellow Bundle, which is in the Holiday Catalog.

While I love all the stamp sets that come with a coordinating die set, I really enjoy using the bundles that come with a punch.  It’s that instant gratification thing, I guess.  But this card was quick and easy to put together.  I just stamped the pumpkins on different patterns of the Come to Gather DSP and a scrap of Mint Macaron card stock using Early Espresso ink, and then punched them out.  I used a scrap of Early Espresso card stock to get the stems, then I trimmed them a little bit.  After that, I brushed on some Wink of Stella.  I’ve said this before but that is one of my favorite embellishments, it just adds a little something to the finished card.  It’s not always easy to see in a photograph but it really packs a punch in person.

My favorite sentiment in this stamps set is the Hey There, Pumpkin! because its one of the nicknames I call my grandson, and now that he’s 13, he says he’s too old to be called that.  But I told him it’s my Grandmother privilege to call him whatever I want, lol!

And here’s the finished project!

And I’ve added a new feature to my blog pictures!  If you click on any of the images, you will be directed to a page on my online store that lists all the products I used to make the card.  You can choose to add them all to your shopping cart, or just select the ones that you need since a lot of us have a pretty nice inventory of SU! products already on hand, lol!

I hope you enjoyed my cards and perhaps I’ve pushed you a little outside your comfort zone with the non-traditional example.  Now, please continue hopping along to  Jo Anne’s blog.  She always amazes me with her creative talent!

Happy Stamping!
