February NC Demos Blog Hop – Shake, Rattle and Roll!!

Welcome to our February Blog Hop!  You may have just hopped over from Amy Kinler’s blog, wasn’t that a great project!?  She always does amazing work, as do all of our hop participants!

Our theme for this month was to make a project with movement, which at first overwhelmed me because I couldn’t decide what type of card I wanted to make.  There are shaker cards, slider cards, pop-out cards, fancy flip cards, so many options that my head started to spin.  And then I thought, wait a minute, I just saw a great project showing a spinner card so why not tackle one of those?  The spinner card was demonstrated by another talented NC Demo, Carolyn Bosely, during our monthly NC Demo Stamp Along and I just fell in love with it.  I already knew which stamp sets I wanted to use, the Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick Bundle.  The Hey Birthday Chick stamp set is currently available in our Jan-Jun Mini catalog.  Hey Chick is actually a Sale-a-Bration stamp set that retired back in 2017, but, SU! decided to bring it back and I’m glad they did.  It coordinates perfectly with Hey Birthday Chick!  And on top of that, they created dies to go with BOTH of these stamp sets…Woo Hoo!!  You can find all the ordering info by clicking on the picture below 😉

I’m using some pieces of both stamp sets and dies for my project.

  I’m actually going to show you 2 cards.  The first one was my prototype.  When I design a card from scratch, I generally have an idea in mind of what I want it to look like.  And to be honest, most of the time the first draft is less than stellar, lol!  So I changed up a couple of things and was much happier with the 2nd card.

In order to create movement for this card, you need a little pocket change.  Yes, you read that right, the moving mechanism of this card is actually 2 pennies adhered together with a mini dimensional!  Who would have thought that, lol!  In order to allow room for the spinner to work, there needs to be 3/8″ between the outer circle and inner circle.  So I had to choose 2 dies from the Layering Circle dies that gave me that spacing.  You also have to mount the center circle and the main card layer with dimensionals to give room for the spinning to occur.  It might sound a little complicated but trust me, it was actually pretty easy…and FUN!

Here’s a few more pics to show some of the detail.

I used Cinnamon Cider as my card base, fence, and sign, Poppy Parade for the balloon, and Basic White for the Happy Birthday sentiment and images.  Blends were used to color all the images.
