Hello and welcome to our March NC Demos Blog! You may have landed here from Tracie Evans Langley’s page. She always has such great ideas 🙂
This month’s theme has us focusing on embellishments. Embellishments are things like Designer Series Paper (DSP), ribbons, gems, sequins, etc. And they can make or break a card. It’s really easy to go overboard (ask me how I know, lol!). But sometimes, just the right paper, ribbon, or bling can really finish off a card perfectly.
As I sat down to start designing my card, I had several pieces of ribbon and cardstock that I had used on a previous project and I decided to work with what was right at hand. I had several pieces of Evening Evergreen Open Weave ribbon as well as a few scraps of Soft Succulent cardstock. I came up with the idea to create a woven piece using the ribbon scraps I had. The Soft Succulent base is 3 x 2 1/4 and I used a total of 10 pcs of Evening Evergreen ribbon, cut in 4″ lengths. I did have to cut a few more pieces of ribbon to make the design work, but I was happy with the outcome.
Once I had that done, it was time to pick the stamp set and other coordinating elements. I chose to use some of the new Online Exclusive products to create my card. Online Exclusives are a new product strategy for SU! We will offer them twice a year, once in March and once in November. They will not be in any of our hard-copy catalogs and will only be found online. One thing to keep in mind is that there is no specific time frame for when these products will end. Some will be restocked when the initial inventory sells out. You will see “Currently Unavailable” under these products, which means they will be restocked. Others will simply be gone from the website once they sell out. So if you see something you’d like to order, I’d recommend grabbing it sooner rather than later!

The Tropical Leaf stamp set was a perfect option for pulling in the colors used for the woven ribbon piece. I knew I wanted to stamp the leaves as my background on the card. I started with a piece of Basic White cardstock, 5 1/2 x 4 1/4, and randomly stamped the images using Soft Succulent, Evening Evergreen, and Memento Black. Then I used the largest frame from the new Radiating Stitches dies to cut the card front. That layer was attached to an 11 x 4 1/4 piece of Basic White Thick cardstock. I used the small circle from the die set and cut a circle using Soft Succulent card stock. “Hello” was stamped on that using Memento Ink. I stamped one large leaf on Basic White cardstock and used the coordinating punch for it, and stamped the smaller leaf and fussy cut that. I happened to have an extra white banner that had been die-cut using the Stylish Shapes dies so I pulled that into the design as well. I used Tear & Tape to secure the woven ribbon piece to the card front and also to attach the white banner to the front of that piece. I wanted to make sure it was good and stuck! The card was finished off with gold dots from the Brushed Metallic Dots. I also added Wink of Stella to the 2 leaves, but it doesn’t photograph very well.
I hope you enjoyed my creation for this month. Now it’s time to check out the rest of the blogs! Laurie Meier is up next, and she always has a great project to share 🙂

Toni, I love this card! I just got this stamp set and was playing with it today. Thank you for sharing such a terrific idea!
Thanks, Tracie, I have had fun using it too. And I love a punch bundle, it’s so quick and easy to create with them.
I absolutely love this card. What a great idea to weave the ribbon and cardstock going to have to try it.
Thanks, Tina. And please do give it a try! It was a tad bit time consuming but not hard. I’d love to see what you come up with 🙂
This is so cool! I love how you used the ribbon.
Thank you, Amanda. I was just trying to use up scraps. And knowing that the ribbon will retire next month, I thought it would be a good time to use it up!
Toni what a great idea to weave the ribbon. I either use all of a ribbon or have lots left over. This is a gorgeous way to use some of it especially when retirement is coming for some of the ribbons. Love all the elements you used on your card and for the reminder to use some of those pieces we have lying around. Pretty card!
Toni – What a brilliant card! I love the way that you used the ribbon and pieces of cardstock for the woven piece. The Tropical Leaf bundle products and green inks add the perfect backdrop for the card. My Tropical Leaf bundle arrived today – yeah! And, now I have the perfect inspiration to use it!
Thank you, Laurie 😊. I’d love to see what you create using this set!
Such a neat idea! Beautiful card!
