Welcome to the last blog hop for 2019!! How is this even possible? I swear that once we hit Labor Day, the rest of the year just flies by. By the time we publish this blog, Christmas will be over and hopefully, everyone had a lovely holiday. Now for that few days of precious peace and quiet before we gear up for the new year. You may have just hopped over from Tina Lesson’s blog, and I know she had some great projects to share 🙂
Our theme this month is Pick Three! We were to pick one stamp set and use it in three ways. I choose to extend this challenge and used a suite in 3 ways. It’s always nice to see how to incorporate the wonderful items that coordinate within a suite. I chose to make a card and two 3D projects for this month’s hop. And because there are 3 projects, it may be a little picture heavy!
Project 1 was the card I recently submitted for a card swap in the Stampin’ UP! Leaders group. I really love the pairing of Mint Macaron and Smokey Slate. I think they compliment each other very well. And I added a bit of pink with the Flirty Flamingo Light Blend marker on the perfume bottle. I added few little embellishments with the Mint Macaron Sheer Linen Ribbon and Silver Metallic Thread. There’s also Wink of Stella on the perfume bottle but it never photographs well. I used the Subtle Embossing folder on the Mint Macaron layer. This is one of my very favorite embossing folders. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do, add a subtle bit of texture to your card. I added one of the stamp images from the Dressed to Impress stamp set and a sentiment from Peaceful Moments.
The 2nd project is a holder for a Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer.
I found the pattern from a post by Twila Davis (she does the most amazing 3D items!) and just made a couple of my own adjustments. And this project only uses the 6×6 DSP from the Best Dressed Suite. One of my favorite patterns in this DSP package is the perfume bottles. They are just too cute! I also used the Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding that goes with the Peaceful Poppies Suite. This ribbon is so versatile! This is a must-have accessory from the Mini Catalog in my opinion. You can color the ribbon using our Blends so it virtually can be any color you need! I used the Dark Mint Macaron to color the ribbon for this project. You just have to give it a minute to completely dry and then you are good to go!
Holder Measurements:
Holder base – 8.5″ x 2″ – score @ 3.75″ and 4.75″. Using Delightful Tag punch, punch both ends of the base
Holder Band – 6.5″ x 1.75″ – score @ 1.25″, 2.25″, 4.25″ and 5.25″. Place adhesive on the back of this band (just the piece that will be on the front and back of the holder, not the side pieces) and wrap around the folded base. This helps keep it secure.
DSP band – 6″ x 1.5″. I didn’t score this piece, I simply added some adhesive to the backside and wrapped it around the card stock band. Since I used a 6×6 piece of DSP, it didn’t completely meet at the back of the card stock band. If you are using 12 x 12 DSP, you will cut it at 6.5″ x 1.5″ and it will completely wrap around the cardstock band.
And last but not least, my 3rd project is a treat box that Erica Cerwin shared.
I loved the unique shape of it and thought it was going to be a little challenging to make. But it’s actually just a basic lidded box with an added topper of a piece of cardstock cut using our Stitched Nested Dies! It totally changes the look. I used the Scripty Embossing Folder to give it a more feminine look, a small piece of the Best Dressed DSP cut with a smaller Stitched Nested die, some Pink Petal Metallic Edged Ribbon (from the Parisian Blossoms Suite) and a pink tassel from the Best Dressed Suite. I attached the ribbon and tassel with a couple of glue dots. This is a great way to show that we can coordinate items from other suite offerings as well! I tucked a small square soap that I purchased at a boutique in VA a few months ago.
The box base is 7.5″ x 5.25″
– score on long side at 1″, 3.25″, 4.25″ and 6.5″
– score on short side at 1″ and 4.25″
– trim each of the square tabs at an angle
– Place strong adhesive on the outside of all the square tabs. Fold up the tabs on the left and in the center into the left side rectangles
– then fold the right-hand squares into the other rectangles (sorry, I forgot to take a picture of these last 2 steps 🙁 )
I had a great time working on the projects this month, and while I tried to keep everything within one suite, I’m really glad that we have so many products that coordinate so well across the board. This is a great selling point for our customers, don’t you think?
Thanks for stopping by, and please continue through the hop. Frances Wagner is next and I know she has some wonderful projects to share!
