NU Demos Monthly Blog Hop – Summer Fun!

It’s that time again!  Here we are at the end of July, and my head is spinning that we are already past the halfway point of 2020!!  You may have just hopped over from Tracie Evans Langley‘s blog and I know her project was amazing, they always are!  If so, you know that our topic for this months hop is Summertime!  So here is how my brain works…Summertime=hot=tropics=pineapples, lol!  So since I had pineapples on my mind this is what I came up with.  I knew I wanted to change up my normal routine of posting a card so I went with a 3D home decor type project this month.  I’ve had these Tiny Treat Boxes in my stash for a while and they needed to come out of hiding!  And since I always have a fairly substantial assortment of paper bags, I decided to just stamp one of those to make a coordinating gift bag.

This project is super easy and quick!  I’ve included instructions and a video at the bottom of this post.  But the pic below shows you the pieces you’ll need to make the tealight.  And I used Adhesive Sheets to make it easier to attach the 2 pieces for the pineapple top, that’s why the top die cut is showing a white side instead of Just Jade. Those sheets are now a required tool in my craft room!

To decorate the gift bag, I just used an old technique of coloring directly on to the stamp so that I could get both colors I wanted for the pineapple.  I tend to forget about this technique, but it’s a great use of our markers!

Here’s an important tip on die-cutting the pineapple bottom.  You are going to cut your DSP slightly shorter than the length of the die.  This is because the die is a tiny bit larger than the 2″ area you will be covering on the treat box.  So you will want to work with a 2″ strip of your DSP of choice when cutting the 4 pieces of the pineapple bottom.  You can only cut 2 bottoms from the 2″ x 6″ piece of DSP so you will need 2 of those strips.

The other tip is for the pineapple top.  I wanted to adhere 2 of them back to back, with a strip of DSP in the center to stabilize it and give me a base to attach it to the top of the treat box.  In order to do this, you need to cut one top using the pattern you want to show, and then cut another from the BACK design of that DSP.  This allows you to flip it over and match up your first die cut.  I did use the adhesive sheets on the back of the DSP that I wanted showing
