Stampin’ Write Markers versus Stampin’ Blends

If you are new to the Stampin’ UP! world, you may feel a little overwhelmed with some of the coloring tools that we offer.  We have an amazing assortment of colors and make them available in our Stampin’ Write Markers AND our Stampin’ Blends.  Although not all colors are available across both lines.  This post will hopefully shed a little light on the differences between the two product lines.

Stampin’ Write Markers

 

Here are some of the features of the markers.

• Dual tipped water-based markers.
• Use with embossed images or Stazon Ink to color images.
• Can color directly on to stamps and then stamp image.
• Does not blend well. Once you’ve colored an image the ink does not move.
• Ink is similar to SU! Classic inks, which are water-based inks
• Not refillable.
• Available to order as an entire set, or by color grouping (Subtles, Regals, Brights, Neutrals, and In-Colors).

Stampin’ Blends

Our SU! Blends are alcohol-based markers and as such, dry much quicker than the Stampin’ Write Markers. 

Here are some of the features of the Blends.

• Dual tipped alcohol-based markers
• Use with Memento Black Ink or SU! Classic Ink Pads
• CANNOT color directly on to stamps, the ink will dry too quickly since it’s alcohol-based
• Can also use with embossed images
• Come in light and dark shades of the same color
• Can blend light and dark shades of the same color or can blend colors with similar hues
• There is a “Color Lifter” which allows you to remove color if your image is too dark and you want to add some highlights. It doesn’t actually remove the color if you go outside the lines of your image, but you can “push” the color back a bit.
• Not refillable
• Can only be purchased as a set (Dark & Light)
• Works beautifully to color several of our white ribbons to make them match the color palette on the projects you create.

I personally find that I lean towards the Stampin’ Blends more often than not.  But I think both have their own unique place in our creative arsenal.  If you have any specific questions about either line of our coloring options, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
