January NC Demos Blog Hop – Celebrating!

Welcome to our January NC Demos Blog Hop!  You probably just came from  Ariel Matera’s post, wasn’t it great?  We have such talented demonstrators in our monthly hops.  And we have new participants this month and that is VERY exciting!  If it’s something you’ve been thinking of doing, then please join us!  It’s been a bit more than a year ago that I decided to stop being my own worst critic and actually show some of my creations, lol!  And am I glad I did 🙂

This month’s theme is Celebrating.  Our project could be anything but it had to be centered around a celebration.  And I was thrilled when I saw the theme because one of my favorite Sale-a-Bration sets is Happy Birthday to You.  I really love the cursive font used and I wish there had been a few more sentiments in this set.  And did you know that we are adding a coordinating die set for these stamps?  Woo Hoo, that’s even more reason to love it! Starting Feb., 4th, you will be able to purchase the coordinating dies.   The dies are $27 and there are 5 dies in the set, one die for the entire cake, one that isolates the flowers on the cake, one for a cake stand and 2 other decorative elements (Order #153590).  So if you order the dies along with another $23 in merchandise, you can select the stamp set for FREE!  This is going to be my go-to birthday stamp set for a while 🙂

So, on to my card.    This is another one of those situations where I had the idea in my head, I just wasn’t sure how it was going to look once it was on paper!  I knew I wanted to try using our Pigment Sprinkles in some way on the cake.  Initially I tried using it on the seperate layer of flowers but I didn’t like how that turned out.  So I changed it and added them to the full cake image.  I was much happier with those results.  Our Pigment Sprinkles give you so much variety with little effort.  All I did was to stamp the cake image twice on white shimmer cardstock, using Stazon ink.  One image I cut the full cake and the other I just cut the flowers.  On the full cake image,  I lightly sprayed water on the image and added the sprinkles.  I used a little Melon Mambo and Mango Melody, to coordinate with the colors I used for the flowers.  I focused more on the area that is mostly cake because I was adding a separate layer of the flowers over the image, so it didn’t matter if I got pigment on that part.  And remember, a little goes a long way with this product.   You can see how little I used in the 3rd picture. Then I sprayed a little more water on the pigment.  You don’t want to spray too close to the pigment or it will over saturate the effect.

Next, I used Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo and Mango Melody markers to color the flowers.  I finished the flowers off with Wink of Stella.  If we ever discontinue that product it will break my heart!  I used my heat gun to make sure the full cake layer was completely dry, then I added the flower layer to it.  Next, I cut off the bottom of the cake stand and added the ornate cake plate cut in Gold Foil.

For my card layer, I used DSP from the new Pleased As Punch collection, another one of the Coordination offerings that you can purchase starting on Feb., 4th.  Then, I ran a piece of vellum through the Scripty Embossing Folder.  Have you ever used Vellum in our embossing folders?  It’s gorgeous, you have to give it a try if you haven’t done it yet!  I used the Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment on the DSP.  It’s the only way I will stamp sentiments anymore.  I know it’s always going to be perfectly straight!

Then it was time to assemble everything.  A little tip for adhering Vellum, I attached the cake image with dimensionals to the vellum piece first.  Then I turned the vellum piece over and only applied glue to the area that the cake image covered.  That way, you don’t see any adhesive anywhere else on the vellum.  And since there was such a large area that the cake covered, there was plenty of adhesive to hold that piece securely on the card front.

I hope you enjoyed my card.  And I suggest you run, not walk to your computer on February 4th and take a look at all the new coordinating items we are offering.  You won’t be disappointed!  You’ll be able to see them in my Online Store, and they will be “while supplies last” so don’t risk the chance of getting your goodies!

Our next blog hopper is  Jo Anne Hewins, and I know you will love her project.  She always inspires me!  Please click on the NC Demos Pic below (or click on her name below in the list) to see her amazing project!  Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  1. oh boy, I love that cake. My friend and I were discussing trying this technique with the cake but didn’t think the flowers would look right – but you fixed that! Beautiful colors!!
