NC Demos Blog Hop – Quilt While You Can!

Our theme this month was to create a card using a quilt pattern. To be honest, I almost sat this one out. I’m not a quilter and was a little intimidated by this month’s theme. But, I started looking online for inspiration and did come up with something I liked. And it’s actually a pattern I’ve done in the past so I was pretty familiar with it. I found a post by Robin Armbrecht and she called this a Faux Quilt Technique, so I’m going to stick with that.

Quilting techniques are great for using up scraps of Designer Series Paper. If you are a paper crafter, i KNOW you have plenty of scraps. And SU!’s DSP is always so pretty that we tend to hold on to ALL the scraps, lol! For this project, I used the Lovely Blossoms DSP. I love the contrast of Petal Pink and Secret Sea, along with some Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Cloud Cover.

At first glance, this might look a little complicated. But it’s actually pretty fun and easy to create. And white I went with 1″ wide strips, you can also use a smaller width to make the pattern even more interesting. Since I was in a hurry (and it almost always seems that I am!), I went with the 1″ width. You start with a layer of Basic White cardstock (in this project it is 5″ x 3 3/4″) and you layer the DSP strips on to the layer. Some like to use liquid glue for these types of card because it gives you a little “wiggle room” to line up your strips. Other adhesive options are double-sided tape runners or adhesive sheets.

Once I finished my pattern, I embossed it with the Soft Waves Embossing Folder. This folder, which is one of my all time favorites is currently on the Last Chance list. So if you don’t already have it, hurry and grab it before it’s gone for good! The embossing helps give it the quilted look. You could use any other embossing folder you have on hand to create this effect.
