Welcome to the October NC Demos Blog Hop! You may have just hopped over from Tina Lesson’s blog, wasn’t her project great?!
This month our challenge was to share our favorite thing or things from the Annual or Holiday catalog. I definitely had to narrow it down because my post would be like a small novel if I didn’t! I was able to zero in on one particular stamp set from the Holiday catalog. I’m am a big fan of penguins. I have always loved them, I just think they are so cute. Back when I first started dating my husband, he knew how much I loved them and while on a trip, he brought back this guy for me 🙂
And when we got married, he really stepped up his game! This was his wedding gift to me, a beautiful black diamond penguin necklace. Needless to say, he’s a keeper!
So, when I saw the new stamp set, I knew I had to add it to my collection. We’ve had a number of stamp sets in the past that featured penguins, but they were always more whimsical. I love the real look of these little guys. And the fact that we can put hats and scarves on them just makes them even better.
This is one of the cards I made recently for an NC Demo Quarterly swap. There is very little stamping required, it’s more about layers and embellishments.
I love the new 6 x 6 Wrapped in Plaid DSP. I’ve always been a fan of plaid and I love the colors used in this DSP. Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy and Shaded Spruce look very elegant together. And this DSP can easily be used for non-holiday themed cards.
I used Shaded Spruce for the card base and ink for stamping the background on the front flap. The card base is 6.5″ x 5.5″, scored at 4.25″. The penguin was stamped using Black Memento on a piece of Whisper White that was cut using one of the Stitched Nested dies. I added a bit of Mango Melody color to his beak. Wink of Stella was applied to the penguin (have I told you how much I LOVE Wink of Stella?) The scarf was stamped on a scrap of Whisper White and colored using light Shaded Spruce blends, fussy cut and attached to the penguin. I colored one of the rhinestones using the light Cherry Cobbler Blends and attached that to the scarf. I used the Stitched Nested dies to cut a larger piece of Gold Foil paper, then mounted the stamped penguin piece to that using dimensionals.
The finished piece was layered on to the front panel of the card and a piece of the Shara Sand/Night of Navy Bakers twine was wrapped around the front panel and tied in a bow.
The inside has panels of Whisper White and Wrapped in Plaid DSP (2″ x 5 3/8″) with the sentiment stamped in Night of Navy. I used a small piece of leftover DSP scrap to break up the Whisper White cardstock.
I hope you enjoyed my card! Now please follow along to see the rest of the NC Demo’s blog posts. Laurie Meier is next and I know you’re going to love her project 🙂
